The country that gave the world chewing gum is doing something about against it now!
Apparently, the average square yard of Mexico City sidewalk has 70 'blobs' of discarded gum.
And now, the city is out to rid itself of improperly disposed sticky stuff!
Mexico City's director for conservation of public spaces, Ricardo Jaral, is the general who'll be leading the charge against gum.
Starting February 1st, he's commanding an army of 10 German-designed machines to make the Distrito Federal's sidewalks gum free. Said machines will treat the city's common areas with steam and chemicals to dislodge the sticky stuff.
"When you finish chewing a piece of gum, you either have to put in a piece of paper and deposit it in a trash receptacle, or swallow it," said Jaral.
Swallow it?
Gross!
We were just in Mexico City and didn't notice the gum mess.
We're all for it, though!
