Anne Hathaway 'prematurely named as best actress at Golden Globes'

Anne Hathaway may have been prematurely named as the winner of the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama.

A star was placed next to Hathaway's name on a list of nominees on the website of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which runs the awards show.

A key at the top of list shows that the symbol will be placed next to the names of all winners when they have been officially announced at the ceremony on January 11.

The HFPA refused to comment on the incident. Some commentators have speculated that the star could have been posted because of a technical error. It has since been removed from the site.

Hathaway, who was nominated for her performance in Rachel Getting Married, is in a tough field, competing against Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie and Kristin Scott Thomas.

She has said that she does not believe she will win, and is convinced that Streep, with whom she co-starred in The Devil Wears Prada, will instead claim the award. She said of Streep: "There's just no touching her".

The ceremony, the 66th in the awards' history, is to be held in Los Angeles California. Slumdog Millionaire, which was directed by the British film-maker Danny Boyle, is considered a leading contender for the prize of best drama film.

Mamma Mia!, which has become the most successful film ever at the British box office, is nominated for best musical or comedy.
